I've been spending a lot of time recently researching my family's history. A few years ago I learned that both sides of my family have Kentucky roots so I've been surrounding myself with all things related to the Bluegrass State. Most recently I started reading a 1960 first edition of Seedtime on the Cumberland by Harriette Simpson Arnow. Much of the book details pioneer life in addition to the native plants and wildlife of the Cumberland River Basin. The area is not far from where many of my ancestors lived so I'm getting quite an education on how they might have lived, ate, and survived.
