How excited are people about President-Elect Barack Obama? I work at T magazine at The New York Times and was just told about a long line of people outside the building trying to get copies of today's newspaper due to a shortage in all five boroughs. At this time there are no available papers at the NYT building either. (Thankfully, I was able to get a copy when I came in this morning and will be holding on to this paper for a long time to come.)

Born and raised in Oak Park, IL, a suburb outside of Chicago, I called my brother to ask him to pick up a copy of The Chicago Tribune for me. Well, it seems Chicago is suffering from a newspaper shortage as well. He went from store to store looking for both the Tribune and the Chicago Sun-Times for family members with no success. When he later came across a Chicago Tribune delivery truck the driver told him that another shipment would arrive early in the afternoon.

I was just told another shipment of The New York Times will arriving here at 3 p.m. (Maybe even as early as 1 p.m.) Let's hope.

UPDATE:
More copies of today's NYT's were made available at the Times Building around 1:30 p.m.

My brother in Chicago just left me a voicemail message letting me know that he was able to pick up a fresh copy of the Chicago Tribune.

Many thanks.

Photographs From Passage Project

  • La Biblioteca Tercera Raíz: Padre Glyn Jeemott
THE PASSAGE PROJECT is a book and documentary theater piece combining text, video, and music; a meditation on the diverse voices that exist within Africa and the diaspora. These stories reveal how geographic location, culture, socioeconomic status and language directly shape identity. Ultimately, THE PASSAGE PROJECT serves as an exploration into human nature that people of all cultures can relate to by transcending traditional ideas of race and identity. The photographs help put the stories into context by illustrating each storyteller’s experience. (All photographs by Trina Michelle Robinson)
